Die 57-jährige britische Schriftstellerin Hilary Mantel wurde am 06. Oktober 2009 mit dem Man Booker Prize 2009 ausgezeichnet.
Sie erhielt den mit 50.000 Pfund dotierten britischen Literaturpreis für ihren Roman Wolf Hall.
Hilary Mantel zählte zu den Nominierten der Shortlist, auf der sie neben Romanen von A.S. Byatt, J.M. Coetzee, Adam Foulds, Simon Mawer und Sarah Waters vertreten war.
Seit Bekanntgabe der Longlist im Juli 2009 wurde Wolf Hall, der elfte Roman der Autorin, bereits über eine Million Mal verkauft.
Hilary Mantel hat fünf Jahre an Wolf Hall geschrieben, derzeit arbeitet sie an der Fortsetzung der Geschichte um Thomas Cromwell.
